Historic Preservation Commissioners
Robin Carmody is originally from Boston, MA and has a passion for Deadwood’s colorful history and the Old West. She moved to Deadwood in 2016 and is actively involved in the community. She is an avid researcher with contributions to the 2 books written on Agnes Lake Hickok, and recently co-authored three children’s books relating to the history of Deadwood, its legendary characters and locations. She is a team member of the dedicated staff at the Deadwood Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Bureau.
Dale Berg is co-owner of Berg Jewelers with his wife Susan on Historic Main Street. They started working in Deadwood in 1998 and ran Berg Jewelry and Gift in the old Ayers Hardware building but now own and occupy the Nyles Block built in 1880. They recently rehabilitated this historic building’s exterior façade along with the creation of a loft living unit on the upper floors. The Berg’s have also been stewards of a large Victorian on Upper Main Street since 2004 which they are proud to call home.
Lyman Toews retired as a pipeline facilities engineering manager / consultant and in 1991 relocated to Deadwood. He has fully transformed his house which was previously listed as a non-contributing resource by reversing the inappropriate alterations to the structure. Lyman and his faithful dog Ginger can be seen walking throughout the community. Lyman is actively engaged in the local Kiwanis Club and Toastmasters International as well as serves on the board of the Black Hills Mining Museum.
Tom Blair and his family moved to Deadwood in XXXX and currently run the Whistler Gulch campground. Tom was Mayor of Deadwood during the creation of legalizing limited stakes gaming in Deadwood. Tom and his wife Linda were a integral part of the original Deadwood U Bet committee which poured tireless hours into the effort to revitalize the community As a result of these efforts the proceeds from gaming are dedicated to the historic preservation efforts of Deadwood’s National Historic Landmark.
Willie Steinlicht is a life-long resident of Deadwood and has been actively serving in a variety of positions for betterment of the community. His recent appointment to a vacated position on the Historic Preservation Commission makes him one of the most tenured commissioners – a total of 12 years through two stints. Willie is active with the Deadwood Masonic Center Association and can be regularly seen having morning coffee with his friends and colleagues.
Bev Posey is a former Hardware Service Technician / Service Planner retired after a 30-year career with IBM. Originally from Connecticut but moved here from Rochester, Minnesota in 20001. She and her husband Jim live in a restored Victorian in the Presidential Neighborhood. Bev regularly attends all Deadwood’s public meetings held by the City Commission and is an active member of the Main Street Initiative. She is also a passionate runner. Bev currently serves as the Vice-Chair of the Deadwood Historic Preservation Commission.
Tony Williams is retired from the United States Navy as a Chief Petty Officer (Aviation Structural Mechanic). He and is wife Diana, recently moved to Deadwood in 2017 and purchased a large Victorian on Upper Main Street which they continue to rehabilitate. Tony enjoys metal detecting, cigars and their pet bird a Timneh African grey named Logan. Tony serves on the Board of Deadwood Alive and works within the core district of the National Historic landmark.
