Welcome to Deadwood, South Dakota, a National Historic Landmark.  I am David R. Ruth, Jr. and on behalf of the residents and employees of the city of Deadwood, I would like to thank you for your interest in our community.  Since 1876, we have been the center of wild west entertainment.  We are proud of our efforts to preserve our history, maintain our community, and entertain our visitors.  It requires a vision of growing toward the future with an emphasis on honoring our past.

As a fifth generation resident, who was born and raised in Deadwood, I am proud of the community that I serve.  I graduated from Lead-Deadwood High School and served in the United States Army.  After returning home, I began a career in gaming that has lasted over 26 years.

Although I have served and been a member of many organizations in Deadwood, my proudest accomplishment is raising two sons with my wife Kerry.

I am certain that you will find Deadwood to be as lively and charming as we do. I look forward to making Deadwood a community to live in and visit for generations to come.
