Andrew B. Mattley (Term 1943 - 1948)
Andrew B. Mattley (August 9, 1890 – May 26, 1959) was a businessman, alderman and Mayor of Deadwood. Born on August 9, 1890 in Hay Springs, Nebraska, Mattley and family relocated to Deadwood when he was 10 years old. After graduating from the eighth grade in 1905, Mattly begun working for Kiser’s Cleaning & Dye Works located on Pine Street. Seven years later, he purchased the business from M.E. Kier in 1912. Mattley operated Kiser’s Cleaners for 31 years before selling the business in 1943. Mattley became involved in local politics in 1938 when he was elected city alderman. Five years later he was elected Mayor of Deadwood in 1943, a position he held until 1948. On May 26, 1959 Mattley died at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Deadwood. He was buried in Third Addition Section 2 Lot 209 in Mount Moriah Cemetery.
