The Deadwood Police Department has taught the D.A.R.E. program in the Lead-Deadwood School District since 1989.  Currently, the Department teaches D.A.R.E. to the fifth grade students at the Lead-Deadwood Elementary School.  The Department also teaches the Junior High program at the Lead-Deadwood Middle School to the seventh grade students.

The Deadwood Police Department has two School Resource Officers. Officer Brandon Webb works primarily with the Lead-Deadwood High School and Middle School. Officer Sonya Papousek primarily works with the Lead-Deadwood Elementary School. They conduct law enforcement duties with juveniles on school property during school hours or school-sanctioned events. The School Resource Officers strive to be a positive resource for the Lead-Deadwood community. During the summer, Officer Webb and Officer Papousek spend their summers supplementing patrol staff and enhancing the relationships they have gained during the school year. If you have questions regarding D.A.R.E. or the School Resource Officer program, please contact the Department at (605) 578-2623.
