The Deadwood Police Department is adamant about working diligently to reduce and prevent alcohol-related, speed related, and other accidents that result in injuries and fatalities. The presence of law enforcement on our roads is meant to discourage traffic violations and ensure our communities roadways are safe. Deadwood experiences a high number of pedestrians, therefore it is even more critical to prioritize traffic safety. It is our objective to keep our roads safe for everyone, including those on foot. It is crucial for all of us to be mindful of our actions while driving to prevent any mishaps.

Here is South Dakota laws referring to seat belt/child restraints.
- All adult occupants in the front seat of a vehicle must be buckled up.
- All operators and passengers under the age of 18 must be buckled up at all times.
