Patrol Division

The Patrol Division of the Deadwood Police Department is the cornerstone of our law enforcement efforts, from which all other support units are derived.  Officers of the Deadwood Police Department work tirelessly to meet the law enforcement needs of our community, including residents, businesses, and visitors, as well as providing essential support during events.  The Patrol Division plays a crucial role in responding to a wide range of calls for service, spanning from minor animal complaints to more serious cases like assaults and financial crimes.  Additionally, our officers are entrusted with enforcing traffic laws to ensure the safety of all who reside in and visit Deadwood.  It is important to recognize that the Patrol Division not only serves as the backbone of our police department but is also an integral part of its daily operations.  Their commitment to fulfilling, completing, and executing our duties is what enables us to effectively serve and protect the community of Deadwood.  The Deadwood Police Department is grateful for the dedication and hard work of our officers, who continually strive to ensure the safety and security of our town.     

The Deadwood Police Department is comprised of a total of 17 full-time certified police officers, 3 part-time certified police officers, 2 reserve police officers, 2 community services officers, and 1 police support technician.  Within the 17 full-time certified police officers, there are 9 police officers assigned to the Patrol Division and 2 patrol Sergeants.  These dedicated patrol officers within the patrol division work around the clock, 24 hours a day, every day of the year, to promptly respond to calls for service and enforce traffic laws.   Patrol officers are the first line of response to calls for service, traffic enforcement and have many other service related duties assigned to them individually.  The Deadwood Police Department and the Patrol Division continuously strives to ensure the safety and security of Deadwood residents, and our committed team of officers work diligently to uphold these standards.
